Building Estate Shelters for the Elderly
Shelter is a basic human right for people of all ages, but for older people, the sense of security and comfort that a home provides is particularly important.
The UN Principles for Older Persons (UN General Assembly resolution 46/91) calls for ensuring the independence, participation, care, self-fulfillment, and dignity of older people. It specifically states that older people should have access to basic services including shelter.
In the spirit of the UN Principles for Older Persons, we have been and continue to help Elderly Individuals by setting up new houses at their respective homes. We are also coming up with an idea of Establishing and Maintaining the Estate Shelters for the Vulnerable Elderly who can’t stay at home due to several reasons e.g lack of caretaker, abuse, isolation among others.
Our methodology revolves around Identifying land where the Estate is to be built, Identifying the Vulnerable Elderly, and allocating them houses.
We take steps to ensure that the community acknowledges the risks and vulnerabilities of older members and that the community is mobilized to support in addressing this cause.
