Emergency Shelter Appeal for the Homeless Elderly in Lowell
Shelter is a vital part of humanitarian relief and plays a fundamental role in the physical and psychological health of affected populations. The UN Principles for Older Persons calls for ensuring the independence, participation, care, self-fulfillment, and dignity of older people. It specifically states that older people should have access to basic services including shelter.
In Most parts of the United States and specifically Massachusetts, December brings the cold winter season with gloomy skies and abundant snow running to March. The weather is very dangerous to the homeless elderly persons and as a charity organization dealing with the Seniors affairs in Lowell, we are appealing for an emergency fund donation to help set up an emergency shelter for about 200 homeless elderly persons.
We are also appealing for blankets, sleeping mats, Masks, underwear, socks, sleeping bags, foodstuffs among other essentials.
Our Tentative budget stands at $9,000
